Research Staff

We currently do not have research staff in the lab.

Graduate Student Researchers

KAZI OWAIS AHMED

PhD Candidate
BS: New York University Abu Dhabi, 2020

Interests in Engineering:

Computer-Aided Design, and Additive Manufacturing

Current Lab Activity:

Kazi is currently working on developing an algorithm that can autodetect a part geometry and suggest which manufacturing method, i.e., subtractive, additive, or hybrid, would be most productive to make it.

WEIJUN ZHANG

PhD Candidate
MS: UC Davis, 2020
BS: Shaoxing University, 2015

Interests in Engineering:
CNC Machining, Additive Manufacturing, Mechanical Design, and Computer Aided Design

Current Lab Activity:
Weijun is actively engaged in researching the development of a Directed Energy Deposition (DED) control system. This innovative system is designed to achieve precise clad geometry and optimal temperature control, thereby enhancing productivity through real-time adjustments to energy and layer height. Simultaneously, the system’s impact on the material properties of as-built components, including residual stress measured through neutron diffraction, is being thoroughly investigated.

MARK WISCOMBE

Master's Student
BS: UC SantaBarbara, 2018

Interests in Engineering:
Additive Manufacturing, Mechanical Design, CNC Machining, Computer-Aided Design, Precision Engineering

Current Lab Activity:
Mark is analyzing and enhancing the current dynamic powder splitter system for improved metal powder flow rate control.

CHARLES RINGHAM

Master's Student
BS: UC Davis, 2022

Interests in Engineering:
CNC Machining, Computer-Aided Design, Additive Manufacturing

Current Lab Activity:
Charles is developing a method to reduce residual stress concentrations and part warpage due to excessive thermal accumulation in DED manufacturing.
