Current Lab Activity:
Kyle is currently developing a method to optimize part deformations and residual stress in metallic parts fabricated using Directed Energy Deposition (DED) through thermal control of the part during deposition. Previous research topics have included numerical modelling of the cutting process to assess the viability and expected surface quality of finish milling hardened cast iron using Cubic Bornonitride (CBN) inserts.

Current Lab Activity:
Curtis is currently working on a dynamic powder feeder system to aid in controlling the directed energy deposition (DED) additive manufacturing process. He also assists undergraduate students with learning the fundamentals of 3-axis CNC machining and has collaborative research with UC Merced on origami sheet metal bending techniques.

Current Lab Activity:
Weijun is currently researching into the development of directed energy deposition process strategy to achieve sufficient clad geometry. The method for manufacturing a complex structure part is being developed.

Divij is currently developing a mass flow rate sensor which will allow to develop a control system for direct energy deposition (DED) additive manufacturing machine by acting as a feedback signal.

Current Lab Activity:
Vivian is currently working on developing a control system that will aid in directed energy deposition (DED) additive manufacturing process by utilizing computer vision technology to process errors in the deposition process and respectively change the powder flow rate through communications with a dynamic powder feeder system.

Current Lab Activity:
Nicholas is currently developing a dynamically variable powder spot size nozzle to allow more control over the geometry of direct energy deposition (DED) clads in additive manufacturing processes. He is also training undergraduate and graduate students in the usage of Esprit CAM software and operation of 3-Axis CNC machines.
